DIY Tuesday with the Brick Doctor

On Tuesdays we are going to focus on the Do-It-Yourself aspects of the Inn project which might include projects that others are helping us out with as well. We will try and give a glimpse of current work happening at the Inn or tips we have learned along the way.

The Brick Doctor

The Snapdragon Inn is a brick building built in 1825 so we have some bricks that are 184+ years old and luckily we have a local Brick Doctor who has been doing some work for us. This week they are working on fixing some brick on the third floor that is letting water in.

He has a passion for all things brick and mortar and we caught up with him today and he gave some insight on the building, the brick, and his passion for brick. We call him the Brick Man, Brick Doctor or Chimney Charlie. Take a look he has some interesting insights on Brick and the process to restore it.

That's a lot of work...it's like a brick by brick that has to be checked! It was rather interesting and lots of knowledge especially about the different mortars that were used.

I don't know anything about bricks. But I saw a really cool film today about a Swedish family called Larsson. 5 children, one of whom -- a daughter -- inherits her mother's creative talents. I mean, hello!

I can't wait tell Chris and I can come up to VT again. It's crazy that it's already been a year since we were there last. Everything looks beautiful! You all have done an incredible job.

whoa, that was a man who knows his stuff. He talked for 5 minutes without barely taking a break haha. Who knew there was so much to know about bricks?

And is that how the vermont accent sounds? Interesting.

I love the Brick Doctor! Now I'm going to be checking out all the brick buildings on my walks, looking for who was a "real" brick mason, and who had no business being one.
