These doors have a mind of their own!

Hello Wednesday (already???!!!!) The porches are coming right along. We've also got a carpenter working on the installation of all the door knobs (every SINGLE door has a personality of its own), peep holes, and locks. He told me stories of his time at Woodstock and missing Jimmy Hendrix play the 'Star Spangled Banner' because he had to pull his car out of mud so he could make it back to work (where he was promptly fired for missing Monday). Good good stories.

We have also been working like mad on furniture, some bed platforms are arriving tomorrow, we've got final painting going on, and the emergency fire ladders for each room arrived yesterday. It's all those little things.

Coming together!!!!

Summer Drives in Vermont

One of my absolute favorite things to do in summer is to wander the green tunneled Vermont roads. Yesterday's high humidity made for a cool evening and gorgeous sunset. I drove out of town across the covered bridge and headed to Claremont, NH to the grocery store. These were some of the scenes within 5 minutes from the Inn. There are miles and miles and miles of beautiful drives. You could pick a few for your weekend at the Snapdragon or pack a week's worth! We are eager to share some of our favorites with you.

Weekend updates

How was your weekend? We were busy on various projects. The front and back porches have been prepped, primed, and ready for nice bright white paint. We made some excellent headway on more furniture rehabbing. The website has some beautiful new photos , check it out here and we've been working on the in-room technologies.
Here's to another productive week!

New Painted Rooms

The public bathroom on the first floor as well as the little alcove off the entry have been painted and are looking great. It's funny, we chose to paint the bathroom Cottonfield which is the same color as Rooms 7 & 1 and looks more yellow upstairs but looks so much greener next to green--duh :)
Love the transforming nature of colors.

Our lists are long and it's time to get to crossing things off!

Have a Wonderful Weekend!

This sums it up

It has been really busy and very humid and hot. You know when there is a lack of pictures to post that we are busy bees working away. The furniture for Room 7 and 5 are complete with 8 well on its way. The entry has been final coated as well as the public bathroom and little alcove. Now it is honestly bits of trim here and there and touch ups and then the public spaces are done which are finicky and time consuming but we are close. We have systems ordered, bedding ordered and the list goes on and on. I promise I will get some more interesting pictures today!

World Cup Appropriate

The other day when this little man woke up from his afternoon nap, he came outside, picked up this little bag and immediately put it on his head as a hat. He is also wearing a shirt that says "soccer" which I thought was all very appropriate for the World Cup.

Since there is a kiwi in the family we are pretty impressed/stunned with the All Whites performances thus far. Who are you cheering for?

Beautiful Lights Beautiful Weather

Last Friday, the lighting fixtures were installed in the entry, library and dining room. They look beautiful. We also began to move in bits of furniture. Woo-hoo!

Surprise in the walls

Yesterday this was found in one of the walls--The New York Times from 1938. We've added it to our collection of found objects while renovating. This must have been a travel issue because the front page was dedicated to travel in Mexico and there were lots of advertisements for travel. I think we should take a cue from the 30s design for Snapdragon ads, "Your own trip at your own pace...arrangemets made by Snapdragon Inn"

I am wondering if we should sneak in a paper from 2010 somewhere for someone to find in 2080. Now doesn't that sound crazy????!!!

Have a wonderful, sunny, summery weekend everyone!

Hello beautiful floors!

Before

After

As you can tell, we can't get over how beautiful the floors are looking. We can get in on sock feet and begin cleaning up the dust and get back into the final painting and start into the plumbing. Anyone interested in helping us with some final painting projects. I promise they aren't as massive as they were. Here's to a productive and positive week all round!

Making patterns for new slip covers

K80 and our good friend were examining the boudoir chairs (we picked up at Brimfield) to make new slip covers. It actually takes a special engineer brain to do this sort of thing and we are lucky to have the resource within our group. These chairs have a lovely shape and they are going to look fantastic in Room 8.

This weekend we will be working on some bathroom fixture installation as well as continuing on the furniture for Rooms 7, 8, & 9. Next week we will post pictures of the finished floors. Yippee!

Happy Weekend!

A second life: rehabbing furniture

Evening out wood/stain

We are in full-on furniture mode now and are excited to take some absolutely awesome finds , rehabilitate, and give them a second life in the Snapdragon Inn. That's our mission rather than buying all new everything. It is very rewarding to take a piece of well used furniture and make it beautiful again.

We've uncovered some lovely wood under layers of stain in several dressers and side tables. Luckily, Chaz (our wonder mom) has a lot of experience refinishing wood furniture and has lots of tricks of her sleeve when using stains etc. We also got to priming and painting a headboard, side tables, and a desk. I've been taking lots of pictures and Room 7 and Room 8 are coming right together. More pictures to come!

Found: Messages in the library

We are assuming this was left by one of the floor refinishers yesterday after sanding the library... but we aren't totally sure. Pretty awesome.

Floor sneak peek

Room 5 before
Most of the rooms were painted this deep red color
that we stripped and sanded off

Room 5 after
has very old gorgeous wide panel wood floors

We took a peek at the floors and they are looking absolutely amazing! I almost got tears in my eyes to see the rooms looking so finished. Check out this time last year when our mom was stripping the red paint and JD was sanding the third floors. Each room is unique in the widths and colors. Some floors are evidently older than others but they give such a texture and finish to the rooms. This week they will be sanding the first floor and all the final coats. We have planned to have carpets in each room to help with noise but it almost breaks my heart to cover these gorgeous floors!

Big thanks to Leilani, Rob, and Amy for coming up from Boston, we were able to make some good progress this weekend. We are very excited to see the floors refinished. It is going to look lovely.
In the meantime... onto some furniture refinishing.
